OUR HISTORY
Three youth hockey programs were spawned from the original New Haven League which was started in 1946. Some of the original founders were Lynn and Lester Patrick of the New York Rangers, former Yale coach Murray Murdoch and the late John Barzee of West Haven, who later help found the West Haven Youth Hockey program.
Greater New Haven Youth Hockey was the combined North Branford Youth Hockey League started in 1972 by Jack Moynihan and Rose DeCaprio, and the the North Haven Youth Hockey Program started about the same time.
In 1998, after a three year hiatus, due to the lack of available ice time, the Greater New Haven Shoreline Youth Hockey Association was reorganized and became a fully chartered member with the Connecticut Hockey Conference and began its inaugural season at the Northford Ice Pavilion.
OUR MISSION
To promote and enhance and atmosphere of fun and development, where participants will develop athletically, socially and psychologically through the game of hockey.
OUR MESSAGE
We believe our program is unique because we have taken a broad approach to the long term development of the individual. We will de-emphasize winning the the short term for the sake of player development. This approach, which is the foundation of the European and Russion systems, and now the newly institiuted USA Hockey "Initiation Program", will make for a more successful program in the long term.
