Here are a few tips to help you enjoy the program to its fullest, we call them the "Three P's".
PATIENCE - First, have patience with your child; they will be in a new atmosphere, with strangers. This may make them apprehensive initially, also, it takes years to master the skills of hockey, so let them have fun and learn at their own pace. If they are compared to other players and don't match up, it will no longer be fun but a burden. Most children desperately seek parental approval, so make it easy for them to gain that approval.
Have the patience with the instructors, they are volunteering their time and will have several children in thier charge at one time. So don't feel as if your child is being overlooked. Finally, have patience with the program, there will be times where your child will just be standing in line waiting for a drill, but even at this time they are learning to adjust his/her balance on thier skates.
PREPARATION - Before you come to the rink, be sure that your child has all his/her equipment, they've relieved themselves before getting dressed and skates are tightened. Try to get to the rink at least fifteen to twenty minutes prior to start time. All of this will take a lot of stress out of the experience.
POSITIVE - Be positive before you go to practice and after. Talk about how much fun they will have, so they look forward to going to practice, and after they get off the ice congratulate them, and talk positive about the experience.
